- Demystifying Dis-Respect: how parents often feel this when their kids misbehave and how to start shifting your perspective to mirror effectively
- Does mirroring mean parents have to be a robot and not express their emotions?
- Grounding yourself before mirroring can allow you to thoughtfully respond to your child (instead of emotionally reacting)
- These techniques are too hard to do! I need help!?!
- Perfection isn’t the goal and in fact it isn’t relatable for our kids
- We all make mistakes, and that’s when we learn and repair
- Keep practicing and consider opening up with your child and being vulnerable by saying we’re on this journey learning and growing TOGETHER
- We set the example and model it, but being perfect ISN’T the goal
- Compassion for oneself and your child as you both learn a new dance/dynamic
Lastly, Jennifer and Natalie role play:
- What do I do when my kid doesn’t want to do homework/chores/anything that isn’t fun?

Evolving Connected Parenting Series: Session 2
In this video, they discuss:
- Robot or neutral? A shift in perspective to help parents gain confidence and be motivated!
- Jennifer gives a couple of strategies to get to neutrality (a necessity BEFORE doing the CALM technique)
- Building the muscle is worth the effort
- Re-Parenting ourselves in those imperative moments will help build resilience and model self-regulation for BOTH parent and child
- Jennifer talks about powerful moments we should be taking advantage
- Chain of pain is something YOU as a parent can break!
- Be mindful of the stories in your head
- The limbic system thrives off of scarcity; recognizing this gives you perspective
- Aggression in your child: how to handle this
- Frontal lobe is offline; limbic system takes over
- Empowering ourselves and keeping our kids safe
- Aggression begets aggression
- What to do to avoid these situations (front loading)
- What do to when in these situations (containment & firm energy)

It is important to give yourself some time to embody the CALM technique!! Really step into their world, then set the expectation “I’ll give you 5 minutes to make a good choice, I know you can do it” and giving children a message of confidence WHILE maintaining neutrality is key. No matter what choice they make, we must front load and let them know we trust and believe in them and their higher self. We must move through our own journey of being a victim, and use the CALM technique on ourself; we have an opportunity to LEARN from it.
